NOUAKCHOTT, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Mauritania President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz on Monday urged Arab countries to harmonize their efforts to "stop" sources of terrorism funding.
The president was speaking in Nouakchott during the opening of the 27th Summit of the Arab League.
He recalled that his country which has not witnessed a terrorist attack since 2010, had put in place a strategy that helps to "contain this danger and keep it outside the country's borders."
At the same time, Abdel Aziz noted that "it is time crises and violence within the Arab world are fully resolved to guarantee territorial integrity and unity of the Arab countries."
The Mauritanian president hailed the role currently being played by Arab countries like Kuwait to resolve the crisis in Syria, a member state that is currently suspended from the organization.
He further deplored the "suffering of our Arab brothers in Libya," before urging members of the League to "work together to find solutions to the crises in this country and cultivate peace among the protagonists.
Elsewhere, Abdel Aziz noted that the Palestinian issue "remains a priority for the Arab countries as well as for all the free men of the world."
"This priority will continue to exist until we find a lasting solution to this problem," the president said, adding that "the solution must come from international resolutions concerning the matter, to guarantee peace and stability in this part of the world."
In 2010, Mauritania formally cut off diplomatic ties with Israel that had been established in 1999 under the leadership of former President Maaouiya Ould Sid'Ahmed Taya (1984-2005).
