KATHMANDU, July 25 (Xinhua) -- A Romanian tourist, who was missing since mid-July in Nepal's Annapurna Trekking Circuit, has been found dead on Sunday evening.

The dead body of 26-year-old Popescu Adina Monica was found dead on a river bank in Ghadruk of Kaski district last evening, the national daily Himalayan Times on Monday quoted DSP Gaju Sidhhi Bajracharya of the Kaski District Police Office.

According to the police, her dead body was found 500 meters downstream from the river. It is speculated that she might have died after being swept away by the monsoon-swollen river.

However, the detail investigation into the case is reported to be underway.

Monica, who arrived in Nepal on July 11, had entered the Annapurna region after buying permit from Annapurna Conservation Area Project on July 12.

Her missing status was informed to the authorities a week later by her family who lives in Bucharest, the capital of Romania.

Right after the report, police had started an investigation through mobilization of manpower, choppers and sniffer dogs whereas Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal(TAAN) had appealed to help search for the missing through its networks and social media.

As per the reports, she was trekking alone in the circuit.

Annapurna circuit, one of the most popular trekking trail of the Himalayan country, has not sustained much damages in the last year's devastating earthquake.

As per the report submitted by U.S.-based engineer firm Miyamoto International to the Ministry of Tourism, only three percent of the total infrastructure along the route was damaged in the quake.
