TORONTO, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Toronto public health issued an extended heat warning for the city on Saturday as hot humid weather continues with temperatures forecast to be in the thirties degrees Celsius.
Cooling centers will be open at seven locations across Toronto on Saturday. The extended heat warning will be in effect until further notice.
Dr. Barbara Yaffe, Toronto's acting medical officer of health, upgraded the heat warning to an extended heat warning on Saturday based on information from Environment Canada.
The forecast calls for a high on Saturday of 33 degrees Celsius with a humidex of 37 degrees Celsius.
Environment Canada said the airmass over Toronto is expected to be less humid on Saturday than it was on Friday.
Public health officials are urging Toronto residents to visit family, friends and neighbors, especially isolated adults and seniors at greater risk of suffering from heat-related illnesses, to ensure they are cool and hydrated.
Residents are also encouraged to seek shelter in air-conditioned malls, libraries and community centers while the extended heat warning is in place.
