ALGIERS, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Algeria on Saturday condemned the gun-shooting attack that targeted civilians at a shopping center in Germany's Munich, and reiterated its support to Berlin's efforts in the fight against terrorism.
"It's with deep dismay that I learned about the attack on Friday in a shopping center in Munich, leaving many dead and injured," Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika said in a condolence message to Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Bouteflika expressed solidarity of Algeria with Germany, saying "I would like to extend our sincere condolences to you, to the German people and to the families of the victims," Bouteflika added.
"Algeria strongly condemns this barbaric act and reiterates its support for your country in the fight against terrorism and full readiness to join the international community to fight against this scourge that threatens the peace and stability in the world," he said.
As many as 10 people were killed, including the gunman, and 16 others injured when a teenager opened fire on people at a busy shopping centre in Munich, local media reported.
The gunman, who committed suicide on a side street, was an 18-year-old German-Iranian, the reports said, adding that his motives are still unclear. Enditem
