WASHINGTON, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Commercial electric power has been restored to Incirlik Air Base in Turkey after a week-long disruption in the wake of a failed coup attempt, the U.S. military said Friday.
The base, from which the U.S.-led coalition launches airstrikes against Islamic State (IS) militants, had been operating on backup generator power since July 16 when the commercial power supply was cut after the failed military coup in Turkey, the U.S. European Command said in a news release.
Generated electric power capability will be maintained for the base should the commercial electricity be interrupted again, it said.
Meanwhile, there is a steady flow of hot food, water and fuel to support U.S. service members and civilians in Turkey, it said.
The U.S., in close coordination with the Turkish military, "will continue to work towards ensuring that the Incirlik base, the U.S. service members who live and work on it, and the operations occurring there remain fully prepared to take on a myriad of missions as part of efforts to defeat terrorism," according to the news release.
Turkey, a NATO ally for the U.S., is a major member of the U.S.-led anti-IS coalition. Turkey temporarily closed the airspace of the Incirlike Air Base and cut its commercial power supply after the military coup on Friday.
