SHANGHAI, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Borussia Dortmund stunned Manchester United 4-1 in their pre-season warmup here on Friday at the Interbational Champions Cup.

Jose Mourinho, the new head coach of the Red Devils, didn't put Wayne Rooney or David De Gea in the starters, which gave their opponents lots of chances.

The United's keeper Sam Johnston failed to hold Pierre Emerick Aubameyang's free-kick, and Gonzalo Castro eventually scrambled the ball home, gifting Dortmund a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute.

The German club was rewarded a penalty in the 35th minute as the ball hit the United's captain Antonio Valencia's arm, and Aubameyang didn't waste the chance to double the lead.

After trailing 0-2 at the break, Mourinho made his changes. Marcus Rashford replaced ineffective Memphis Depay, enjoying the biggest cheer of the evening. Sergio Romero also came from the bench for Johnstone, Marcos Rojo for Phil Jones and Ashley Young for Jesse Lingard.

But the United were just getting blow away. Ousmane Dembele swept past Rojo before drilling a finish beyond Romero.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who transferred to the United from Dortmund this summer, saved the team and Mourinho's face as the Armenian pulled one back after Juan Mata unselfishly put the ball on a plate for him.

Castro sealed the Dortmund victory with a powerful shot from 25 yards.

The win improved Dourmund's record against the United to three wins, one tie and one loss. The last time the two sides met was in the European Champions League semifinals in 1997, in which the German side won both legs 1-0.

The United will play against their arch-rival Manchester City in Beijing on Monday, which will be the first-ever Manchester derby outside the United Kingdom. Enditem
