Cambodian FM heads to Laos for ASEAN meeting

PHNOM PENH, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn flew to the Laotian capital of Vientiane on Friday afternoon for ASEAN Foreign Ministers' meeting and related meetings to be held from July 23 to 26.

The minister will take part in the 49th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' meeting, 17th ASEAN+3 Foreign Ministers' meeting, 6th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers' meeting, and 23rd ASEAN Regional Forum among others, said a foreign ministry statement.

"The 49th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' meeting and related meetings aim at strengthening the ASEAN Community building and the central role of ASEAN in the evolving regional architecture as well as deepening ASEAN cooperation with partners and friends with a view to further maintaining peace, security, stability, and prosperity in the region and beyond," the statement said.

On the sidelines of the meetings, Prak Sokhonn will hold bilateral meetings with foreign ministers and heads of delegation of some countries, it said.

Founded in 1967, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
