BBC reporter freed in Myanmar

YANGON, July 22(Xinhua) -- A journalist from BBC Myanmar-language service, who was sentenced to imprisonment in late June, has been freed by the Myanmar authorities, official media reported Friday.

Nay Myo Lin was released on Thursday as the court accepted his appeal against his three-month sentence with rigorous labor.

He was convicted the controversial sentence for allegedly striking a policeman when he was covering the demonstration of students against an education bill in Mandalay in late March.

The local court accepted his appeal and reduced the sentence from three months to one and half months.
