BEIJING, July 21 (Xinhua) -- China's political advisors on Thursday put forward proposals on enhancing the country's anti-drug efforts.

The conference was presided over by Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee.

The advisors suggested that social organizations and communities should play a bigger role in drug control education and the rehabilitation of drug users, calling for enhanced professional training of social workers, volunteers and psychological consultants.

More emphasis should be given to the rehabilitation of drug addicts and the role of the Internet in the campaign against drugs, according to a statement from the meeting.

The attendees also called for improved laws and regulations related to drug control, and made proposals on identifying new types of drugs as well as on linking drug control with poverty relief.
