LAGOS, July 20 (Xinhua) -- The Nigerian House of Representatives on Wednesday ordered the Ministry of Interior to begin the installation of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) and other surveillance devices in prisons across the Country.

The lower chamber also charged the ministry to reconstruct and re-enforce perimeter fences of the prisons.

This was sequel to a motion by a lawmaker, Anayo Nnebe, which was unanimously adopted by members through a voice vote.

Nnebe expressed concern over cases of jail break in some prisons in the country, especially the recent ones in Koton Karfi, Ekiti and Kuje experiences.

He said such occurrences posed danger to national security and public safety given the fact that the nation's prison facilities lacked monitoring devices.

He stressed that the trend must not be allowed to continue.

The House mandated its Committee on Interior to monitor the process and report back on the level of compliance. Enditem
