SUVA, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has congratulated Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull on his re-election and re-appointment, the Fijian government announced Wednesday.
In his congratulatory message, Bainimarama said Fiji is keen to work closely with the newly-elected Australian government to strengthen bilateral ties and look at ways in which the two nations can strengthen cooperation in the region and on the global stage.
"We look forward to working with you and your government to continue the improvement in our relationship and match the longstanding close friendship between our two peoples," the Fijian prime minister said, extending an invitation to Turnbull to make an official visit to Fiji.
Turnbull and his ministerial team were sworn in Tuesday by the Australian Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove.
