TUNIS, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi on Friday condemned the terror attack in Nice, France, Thursday that left at least 84 people dead as a "vile act."

"We will fight together and show we are united," Essebsi told French Ambassador in Tunisia, Francois Gouyette, according to a statement issued by the president's office.

At least 84 people, including children, were killed and more than 100 others injured when a truck plowed into people watching Bastille Day fireworks on the Nice seafront on Thursday night.

The truck driver was shot dead after opening fire at police. Identity papers of a 31-year-old Franco-Tunisian male, in addition to weapons and grenades, were reportedly found in the truck.

According to Hamed Ben Brahim, general consul of Tunisia in Nice, the Tunisian authorities are coordinating with France to check if there are any Tunisian victims in the attack.

Local media reported that up to 120,000 Tunisians live in Nice. Enditem
