RABAT, July 13 (Xinhua) -- Morocco has taken all the necessary security measures to ensure the success of the climate summit COP 22 slated for November in Marrakech, a senior official said on Wednesday.

Cherki Drais, Moroccan Minister delegate for the Interior, underlined that preparations are going smoothly, and Moroccan security services are paying the highest levels of vigilance in the kingdom's ports and airports.

He made the remarks at a meeting in Rabat with a delegation of 27 reporters from 15 African countries, on a visit to Morocco to cover the preparations under way for holding the climate summit.

The COP 22, or the 22nd Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), is to take place from November 7 to 18 in the Moroccan city of Marrakech.

Morocco has a great experience in the field of organizing international, Arab and African summits and conferences which had attracted thousands of participants from around the world, the official said.

He added that the government is striving to facilitate media coverage for this worldwide event and making sure that journalists are working in good conditions.

The UNFCCC entered into force in 1994, aiming at reducing greenhouse gas in the atmosphere. The Conference of the Parties (COP) was designated as the supreme governing body of the convention. Enditem
