BEIJING, July 11 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday urged Japan to take other countries' security concerns into account, as the sweeping upper house election victory of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP)-led bloc paves way to revision of Japan's pacifist constitution.
The election was Japan's domestic affair, however, in light of the "serious crimes" Japan committed against the Asian people in history, it is fully understandable that other Asian countries including China and the international community are highly concerned with Japan's tendency in military and security policies, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang at the daily press briefing.
On Sunday's election, Japan's ruling camp led by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe retained its majority in the parliament's upper house. At a press briefing during the vote counting, Abe said that the constitutional amendment should be discussed more.
To launch a Constitution review motion requires approval by two-thirds majority in both chambers of the Japanese bicameral parliament. The Abe-led ruling bloc already secured the overwhelming majority in the lower house.
Lu urged Japan to learn a lesson from the history and attach importance to the concern. "We hope Japan will pursue a path of peaceful development, be cautious with its action in the military and security fields, and do more to maintain the regional peace, stability and security," Lu said.
