CARACAS, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Two more boxers from Venezuela, Yoel Finol and Endry Saavedra, qualified for Rio Olympics during a tournament in the state of Vargas, taking the Venezuelan delegation to 79, local media reported Friday.
Finol, competing in the 52kg category, secured his place by defeating Ukraine's Maksym Fatych by unanimous decision and Saavedra (75kg) did the same by seeing off Germany's Xhek Paskali in the semifinals of the pre-Olympic qualifying tournament.
The proud boxing nation will have the chance to add two more athletes to its ranks on Friday as super-heavyweight Edgar Munoz (+91kg) faces off Ukrainian Rostyslav Arkhypenk and Victori Rodriguez (56kg) takes on Turkey's Ibrahim Gokcek.
Finol and Saavedra means that Venezuela is assured of having six boxers at least in Rio, with those having already qualified including Luis Cabrera (60kg), Luis Arcon (64kg), Albert Ramirez (81kg) and captain Gabriel Maestre (69kg).
During this same tournament, Mexico also took home three places for the Olympics with Lindolfo Delgado (60kg), Juan Pablo Romero (69kg) and Joselito Velazquez (-49kg).
Ecuador also claimed two berths with Carlos Quipo (-49 kg) and Marlo Delgado (56kg). Colombia secured one with Carlos Carrillo (81kg) and the Dominican Republic with Hector García Mora (56kg). Enditem
