SUVA, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Fiji and Japan have agreed to a series of modernized aviation provisions that will expand civil aviation cooperation between the two nations, the government-owned Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) said on Friday.

"The new provisions mark the first update to the air services arrangement between the two countries since 1993," said the FBC.

The provisions allow for designated airlines of both countries to operate three passenger or cargo flights per week between Fiji and Japan, with an expansion to four flights per week beginning in late 2019.

The new provisions also provide the opportunity for designated carriers to code-share, and bring safety and security provisions more in line with international aviation industry standards.
