BUENOS AIRES, July 7 (Xinhua) -- A drug-sniffing dog in Argentina has helped police uncover 763 kilograms of marijuana hidden under a cargo of eucalyptus poles, authorities said Thursday.
"As part of the Ministry of Public Security's fight against drug trafficking, the National Gendarmerie has confiscated 763 kilograms of marijuana in a truck transporting eucalyptus poles," the ministry said.
The operation led to the "dismantling of a part of the criminal ring in (the northern province of) Misiones," the ministry said, adding the related investigations began in 2001.
Officers began inspecting the large truck, which at first sight appeared to be carrying nothing more unusual than the poles, which are often used to build fences, but the drug-detecting dog, named "Lady", alerted the agents that something was amiss.
A more thorough search uncovered 803 bricks of marijuana hidden underneath the cargo.
