BRUSSELS, July 4 (Xinhua) -- NATO is talking with Russia to hold another meeting of the NATO-Russia Council after the Alliance's summit in Warsaw, Poland this week, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Monday.

Announcing that NATO will agree to further enhance its military presence in the eastern part of the Alliance at the summit, Stoltenberg told media, "We remain open to dialogue with Russia."

"The NATO-Russia Council has an important role to play as a forum for dialogue and information exchange, to reduce tensions and increase predictability," he said.

He noted that another meeting of the Council may be convened shortly after the Warsaw Summit, where transparency and risk reduction should be an important topic.

In April, NATO allies and Russia held a "frank and serious" discussion at a meeting of the NATO-Russia Council after it had been suspended for almost two years in light of the Ukraine crisis.

The NATO-Russia Council, which was established in 2002, was conceived as a mechanism for consultation, consensus-building, cooperation, joint decision and joint action. Enditem
