SYDNEY, July 4 (Xinhua) -- A United Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner has made an emergency landing at Sydney's International Airport after striking a bird shortly after take-off.
The flight which departed at approximately 09:40 a.m. local time (AEST) bound for Los Angeles was forced to turn back to Sydney and landed safely a short time later. No one on board was injured.
The plane then dumped fuel out to sea under an emergency procedure and "landed under its own might" approximately 40 minutes later, an Airservices Australia spokesperson told local media.
"Our fire-fighters and rescue unit were on standby and ready to respond when needed," a spokeswoman told Xinhua.
It's believed the incident was reported to Sydney tower as a bird strike, with the pilots having concerns over damage to the aircraft.
Australia's aviation regulators will wait until more information is provided from United Airlines on whether they will conduct an in-depth investigation on the incident.
United Airlines did not immediately respond to Xinhua's request for comment.
