PHNOM PENH, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian immigration police arrested 93 illegal Vietnamese immigrants, including 34 females, during raids on their rental houses in the capital of Phnom Penh on Friday, a senior police official said.

"They were arrested for living in Cambodia without passports," Uk Heisela, chief of the General Department of Immigration's (GDI) investigation and procedure department, told Xinhua, adding that they had crossed border into Cambodia illegally.

"They will be deported to their birth country within a week," he said.

According to the GDI, Cambodia expelled 4,424 illegal foreigners last year, 90 percent of them are Vietnamese nationals.

Under the country's immigration law, any alien living in Cambodia without valid documents such as passports, visas, or work permits are subject to deportation.
