JURUSALEM/HEBRON, June 30 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian youth was shot dead near the southern West Bank city of Hebron after stabbing an Israeli girl on Thursday morning, Israeli offcials and Palestinian health ministry said.
The girl, identified as 13-year-old Hillel Yaffa Ariel, died of her wounds later in a Jurusalem hospital, according to a spokeswoman for the hospital.
The Palestinian attacker was identified as 19-year-old Mohammad Tarayra by the Palestinian health ministry and as 17-year-old Mahmoud Traira by Israeli authorities.
He was shot dead in Harsanina, a Jewish settlement in the West Bank.
The settlement is located within the larger Kiryat Araba settlement bloc near Hebron.
Palestinian sources said the attacker's body was withheld by Israeli security forces.
Israeli offcials said a member of its security forces was stabbed and seriously wounded during the struggle with the assailant.
Last Friday, Israeli soldiers killed a Palestinian woman near Hebron, accusing her of attempting to knock over Israeli settlers with a car.
On Tuesday, a 15-year-old Palestinian boy was shot dead near Ramallah, and Israeli forces admitted later that he was killed by mistake.
Israel and the Palestinians have been mired in a wave of violence since mid-September 2015, which has killed 205 Palestinians and 32 Israelis.
