Chinese shares close mixed Wednesday

BEIJING, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed mixed on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.07 percent, at 2,929.61 points.

The smaller Shenzhen index closed 0.28 percent higher at 10,489.99 points.

Turnover on the two bourses stood at 575.2 billion yuan (88.7 billion U.S. dollars), retreating from 644.3 billion yuan the previous trading day.

The communication industry and liquor sector made gains, while nonferrous metal lost.

Haitong Securities predicted that the stock market would continue to swing in the next half of the year.

The Bank of Communications said in a report that it believed economic growth has remained steady in the second quarter of 2016, when GDP is likely to have expanded 6.7 percent year on year.

The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.81 percent to close at 2,227.79 points.
