Turkey says kills 2 IS suspects on Syrian border

Source: Xinhua   2016-06-30 15:52:39

ANKARA, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Turkish security forces killed two suspected Islamic States (IS) suicide bombers on the border with Syria late last week, state-run Anadolu Agency reported on Thursday.

Citing security sources, Anadolu said the two were killed on June 25 when they attempted to enter Turkey illegally from Syria.

Subsequent investigation found the two had had contact with the IS in Syria and that they were listed in intelligence reports.

The Anadolu report followed a terror attack on Tuesday at Istanbul's Atarturk Airport that left at least 41 people dead and 239 others wounded.

Turkish authorities said the IS was behind the gun and bombing attack, but the terror group has so far not claimed responsibility.

The death toll rose to 42 on Wednesday evening, Turkish Daily Sabah reported.
