KINSHASA, June 28 (Xinhua) -- The World Health Organization (WHO) has sent over 11 million doses of yellow fever vaccines to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), Congolese Health Minister Felix Kabange said Monday in Kinshasa.

"WHO has accepted that DR Congo could have up to 11.6 million doses of yellow fever vaccines," he said when he spoke during a meeting to assess the situation of yellow fever outbreak in the country.

At the same time, 12.5 million syringes have been ordered from China and India, Kabange said, confirming that there was an outbreak of yellow fever in three Congolese provinces.

He said a campaign against yellow fever will be launched by July and it will last for 10 to 12 days.

"Over 10 million people will be vaccinated against the disease in Kinshasa and over a million others in infected zones around the DR Congo and Angola border," the minister said.

In another statement issued on Monday by a humanitarian organization, Doctors Without Borders, it was revealed that at least 350,000 people had been vaccinated against yellow fever in DR Congo.
