15 injured in fresh suicide attack in Lebanon's border town

Source: Xinhua   2016-06-28 05:36:26

BEIRUT, June 27 (Xinhua) -- At least 15 people were injured in the suicide bomb attack in Lebanon's northeastern border town al-Qaa Monday night, hours after four suicide bombings had killed five people in the same place, the National News Agency (NNA) reported.

The two bombers were on a motorcycle and blown themselves up outside Mar Elias Church near the Municipality building, the report said.

Meanwhile, media outlets reported more blasts in the town, but no confirmation is made by far.

The blasts only caused injuries according to preliminary information, said George Ketteneh, the Lebanese Red Cross Director of Operations to LBCI TV.

Reports said the bombers struck during a sit-in organized in the town and amidst funeral preparations at the church for victims of the attack earlier in the day.

Four suicide bombers had detonated their explosive belts in the town about 18 hours earlier, killing five people and wounding 15 others.

Security forces have called on residents to remain indoors and not to gather around the attack site to avoid new attacks.

The Lebanese Army confirmed the attack in a statement, saying several suicide bombers struck Al-Qaa "which led to a number of casualties among citizens."
