UNITED NATIONS, June 27 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council on Monday condemned "in strongest terms" the Al-Shabaab attack on a hotel in Somalia which killed at least 16 people, including a state minister.
On Saturday, twin explosions rocked the Nasa-Hablod Hotel in the center of Mogadishu, capital of Somalia. Al-Shabaab militants stormed the hotel, and more than 30 people were injured in the attack.
Local authorities said the body of Bur'i Mohamed Hamza, the state minister in the Prime Minister's Office for Environment Affairs, had been found from the debris of the hotel.
In a press statement, the members of the Security Council expressed their deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the people and government of Somalia.
"The members of the Security Council further stressed the need to take measures to prevent and suppress the financing of Al-Shabaab, and any other terrorist group in Somalia," said the statement.
Al-Shabaab militants, fighting to topple the Somali government, frequently carried out deadly attacks of this kind in Mogadishu.
Earlier this month, at least 10 people were killed and dozens were injured in an attack launched by the Islamist militant group on another hotel in the capital. Enditem
