JAKARTA, June 27 (Xinhua) -- A boat with 13 people on board was sunken in waters off Papua province of easternmost of Indonesia on Sunday night, leaving 6 people missing, rescuers said on Monday.

Huge waves resulted by stormy weather hit the boat when it was sailing from Biak Island to nearby Numfor Island, spokesman of National Search and Rescue Office Marsudi said.

"Seven people have been rescued safely and the rescuers are searching for the other 6," he told Xinhua by phone.

The rescued people are on good health condition, Marsdi added.

Taking boats is a favorite transport mean in Indonesia, an archipelago country with 17,500 islands, but lacking of safety standards has often triggered sea accident.
