SINGAPORE, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat, who has suffered a stroke during a Cabinet meeting on May 12, was discharged from Tan Tock Seng Hospital on Saturday, said the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in a statement.
PMO said that Minister Heng has made an excellent recovery. His sudden stroke was due to an aneurysm, which is a localized weakening of a blood vessel. Heng underwent successful endovascular coil embolization of the aneurysm on the same day. He was also treated with antibiotics for a lung infection.
Minister Heng expressed his deepest appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the National Neuroscience Institute for their excellent care, and also to the many well-wishers, who had sent him messages of encouragement and good wishes.
PMO said Minister Heng will be on medical leave as he continues his rehabilitation process. To minimize the risk of infection, his doctors have advised against receiving visitors for the time being.
Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies Tharman Shanmugaratnam will continue to cover the duties of the minister for finance.
