BEIJING, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to deliver a speech Friday at the 16th summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Uzbekistan's capital Tashkent.

Here are some of the remarks Xi made at earlier SCO summits.

Over the "Shanghai Spirit":

On the 15th summit in Ufa, Russia, July of 2015, Xi called for upholding the "Shanghai Spirit" of mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for cultural diversity and pursuit of common development.

The spirit safeguards international fairness and justice, advocate multilateralism, respect each other's interests, oppose interference in other countries' internal affairs, solve disputes through peaceful means, and boost common development.

The SCO should continue to stand as a staunch force for safeguarding the outcomes of the victory of WWII, and allow no one to distort history and trample on peace, Xi said.

On security and counter-terrorism:

In September, 2014, Xi said in Dushanbe that safeguarding regional security and stability is the SCO's responsibility.

Xi also called on the SCO members to combat terrorism, extremism and separatism, as well as drug trafficking.

On SCO's enlargement:

Also on the 15th summit in Ufa, Russia, Xi welcomed the plan to enlarge the SCO as it can expand inter-governmental cooperation.

He said the SCO should continue to expand external exchanges with other regional and international organizations, and improve the dialogue and cooperation mechanism with its observers and dialogue partners.

Founded in 2001, the SCO now has China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan as its full members, with Afghanistan, Belarus, India, Iran, Mongolia and Pakistan as observers, and Armenia, Azerbaijan, Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Turkey as dialogue partners.
