DHAKA, June 22 (Xinhua) -- The Bangladeshi government has declared a nine-day public holiday starting from July 1 for Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of the Muslims holy month of Ramadan.
The announcement was made by the country's Public Administration Ministry on Wednesday.
The Muslim majority Bangladesh will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on or around July 6 based on sightability of new moon.
Bangladesh Muslims on June 7 begun fasting for the holy month of Ramadan, one of the Five Pillars of Islam.
Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, is the month of self-purification through fasting from sunrise to sunset.
In Bangladesh, millions of people go to their hometown to celebrate the festival.
