WINDHOEK, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Namibia's hopes of salvaging a 2016 Cosafa Castle Cup Plate trophy are alive after they beat Mozambique 3-0 in Windhoek on Tuesday.
With only 10 men on the pitch, Mozambique managed to hold off a deluge of goal-seeking kicks by Namibia that wanted to please the home fans after losing to Botswana 4-5 on penalties.
Mozambique lost its captain Apson Manjate two minutes into the game after he pushed Namibia's defender Denzil Haoseb to the ground.
The first half ended goalless only to see Namibia return for the second half determined to push out Mozambique from the tournament.
The first goal came from Itamunua Keimuine five minutes into the second half when he made good use of a cross sent through by winger Deon Hotto.
From there onwards, Mozambique was on the receiving end, with Hotto and Hendrick Somaeb scoring the other two goals.
Namibia will now clash with Zambia that earlier knocked out Lesotho 3-2 for the Plate trophy Wednesday.
Zambia's goals came from Paul Ketema, Spencer Sautu and Charles Zulu, while Lesotho got its two goals from Phafa Tsosane and Basia Makepe.
The stage is now set for Swaziland and South Africa Wednesday in the first semifinal, while Botswana dates DRC in the second.
Wednesday's results will decide the teams that will play in the final Saturday, and the losers will face off for the bronze. Enditem
