ABUJA, June 21 (Xinhua) -- The Nigerian government on Tuesday vowed to revitalize the nation's automotive industry and said it would consider the implementation of its development plan.
Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Ikechukwu Enelamah told reporters in Lagos, Nigeria's economic hub, that the government would consider the Nigerian Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP) because it has realized that it will provide an enabling environment and a partnership between the government and stakeholders.
The official said value addition was very important in implementing the automotive plan and the government would create the enabling environment for the plan to work effectively.
According to Enelamah, the whole essence of the plan is to foster backward integration and local content utilization in vehicle assembling, which will in turn create jobs for the youths.
He said government would henceforth engage with stakeholders in the automotive industry, having realized the importance of such engagement in order to revive the industry using local content. Enditem
