YAOUNDE, June 20 (Xinhua) -- 78 million dollars is being sought to support over 300,000 refugees in Cameroon, United National High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office Resident Representative in Cameroon Kassim Diagne said on Monday on the occasion of World Refugee Day.

According to the Cameroonian government, among the 300,000 refugees in Cameroon, 259,145 are from Central African Republic, 65,933 from Nigeria.

Cameroonian Foreign Minister Lejeune Mbella Mbella said on Monday while commemorating the 16th World Refugee Day that an ad hoc inter-ministerial committee has provided one billion CFA francs (about 2 million U.S. dollars) since 2013 to the refugees in the country.

In addition, since 2015, an emergency infrastructure program worth 8 million U.S. dollars has been implemented in the north of the country, the minister said.

Diagne said, "This year we called for a fund of 98 million U.S. dollars to help the refugees, up to now, we only got 20 million U.S. dollars, leaving a gap of 78 million U.S. dollars." Enditem
