BEIJING, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Officials and experts from six countries will meet in Beijing to discuss Northeast Asia cooperation, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Monday.

China, Russia, Japan, the United States, the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) will send participants to the 26th Northeast Asia Cooperation Dialogue (NEACD) on Wednesday and Thursday, spokesperson Hua Chunying said.

Wu Dawei, China's special representative for Korean Peninsula affairs, and Choe Son-hui, deputy director for North American affairs at DPRK Foreign Ministry, will be present at the meeting, Hua said at a regular press briefing.

The dialogue is organized by the University of California Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC) in coordination with the China Institute of International Studies (CIIS).

Participants will exchange views on the current regional security situation and methods to reduce tension and promote strategic trust, according to a press release from CIIS.

"We hope this meeting will have productive discussions on Northeast Asia cooperation and give suggestions on maintaining regional peace and stability," Hua said.

NEACD was established in 1993 to create an institutional mechanism for dialogue and communication to minimize tension and build cooperation in the region.
