BEIJING, June 17, 2016 (Xinhua) -- An excavator is used to dismantle the racetrack at the Baiyunlu campus of Beijing No. 2 Experimental School in Xicheng District in Beijing, China, June 17, 2016. The Baiyunlu campus of Beijing No. 2 Experimental School has started to remove a synthetic racetrack after toxic substances allegedly poisoned dozens of students, local authorities confirmed on Friday. Last month many students at the school suffered from nosebleeds, dizzy spells and coughs after running on the track. Although official test result showed that the track was up to standard for use, many people questioned it and investigators admitted to the existence of pungent smell. (Xinhua/Li Wen) 

BEIJING, June 17 (Xinhua) -- A Beijing primary school has removed a synthetic racetrack after toxic substances allegedly poisoned dozens of students, local authorities confirmed on Friday.

Xinhua reporters saw two excavators working at the Baiyunlu campus of Beijing No. 2 Experimental School in Xicheng District. The project is scheduled to be completed this Sunday.

Students had a day off Friday, and will be back next Monday.

Last month many students at the school suffered from nosebleeds, dizzy spells and coughs after running on the track.

Although official test result showed that the track was up to standard for use, many people questioned it and investigators admitted to the existence of pungent smell.

Similar cases have occurred in other provinces.
