BEIJING, June 17 (Xinhua) -- More than 157 million yuan (24 million U.S. dollars) of fines were collected in 192 environmental cases from January to April, the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) said Friday.
Environmental authorities transferred 2,957 cases to judical agencies in the first four month, the ministry said.
During the period, the provinces subject to most environmental violations were Zhejiang, Guangdong and Fujian. Liaoning, Heilongjiang and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region collected most fines, according to the ministry.
Polluters in Liaoning were fined over 38.6 million yuan from January to April, which accounted for a quarter of fines collected nationwide, the ministry said.
