TRINKOT, Afghanistan, June 17 (Xinhua) -- At least one civilian was killed and nine others were injured as a roadside bomb organized by militants struck a civilian vehicle in Uruzgan province on Friday, police said.

"A mine planted by militants struck a civilian vehicle in Deh Rawad district this morning, killing one person on the spot and injuring nine others, some in critical conditions," district police chief Shah Mohammad Shah told Xinhua.

The official also warned drivers not to use the road linking Deh Rawad to provincial capital Trinkot as the Taliban insurgents have planted countless mines on the road to target security personnel.

Meanwhile, an official on the condition of anonymity said the number of those killed in the blast is more than reported by the district police chief.

Taliban militants who are largely relying on suicide and roadside bombing have yet to claim responsibility.
