RABAT, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Morocco and Spain signed here on Thursday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on a research program on forest ecosystem resilience to climate change.

The two sides agreed to share information so as to improve networking skills and experience in the management and restoration of natural ecosystems in both countries.

The program also aims to research on adapting to global climate change and mitigating its impacts, as well as to foster knowledge transfer.

Morocco's high commissioner for water, forests and the fight against desertification, Abdeladim Lhafi, told the press the MoU will help prepare plans to better know the dynamics and mechanisms of ecosystem functioning.

The purpose of this network, he said, is the production, dissemination and transfer of scientific knowledge to understand and predict the dynamics of forest areas.

Lhafi recalled that Morocco has a large intercontinental biosphere area spanning over 1 million hectares including marine area, noting this program is to create synergy between the Moroccan and Spanish research institutions through a networking process.
