PARIS, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Forward Admir Mehmedi's ferocious volley helped Switzerland earn a 1-1 draw with Romania in their second round of 2016 EURO Group A games here at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday.

Romania led Switzerland 1-0 at halftime thanks to Bogdan Stancu's penalty after Switzerland captain Stephan Lichsteiner had pulled the shirt of Alexandru Chipciu in the area.

Stancu scored his second penalty of the tournament in the 18th minute from a low shot into the bottom left corner when he sent Swiss gatekeeper Yann Sommer the wrong way from the spot.

Switzerland bounced back on 56 minutes when Mehmedi blasted an unstoppable strike across goal after Romania had made a mess of clearing Ricardo Rodriguez's corner.

Before this round, the two sides have met 12 times, splitting the record by winning five matches and drawing two each.

Switzerland will face France in Lille on Sunday, pursuing the points to guarantee their place in the playoff round. Enditem
