NEW DELHI, June 15 (Xinhua) -- A passenger plane caught fire immediately after taking off from Bengaluru airport in southern India Wednesday, forcing it to return immediately, sources said.

However, all passengers and crew members of the short-duration flight of India's private airlines Jet Airways have been evacuated safely, the sources said.

"The fire was a minor one. In fact, smoke was detected in the cabin minutes after the plane took off from Bengaluru airport for the neighboring city of Mangalore," the sources said.

Wasting no time, the flight turned back and safely landed at Bengaluru airport, they said, adding that "all passengers are safe".
