Myanmar regional gov't plans to fight crime

YANGON, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar' Yangon region government is planning to crackdown on crimes in the region, official media reported Wednesday.

The crackdown targets at Thanlyin, Kamayut, Tamway and Hlinethaya townships, according to Col Tin Aung Tun, Regional Minister for Security and Border Affairs.

He said that the targeted townships are of highest number of drug and other criminal cases.

According to the Yangon Region Police Force, 689 arrests were made in 469 drug-related cases during the period from January to June 12, and the "Dagon" project, as part of the 100-day plan, saw 319 suspects arrested in 218 cases from May 1 to June 12.
