BRASILIA, June 14 (Xinhua) -- About 34 percent of Brazilians disapprove of the government of interim President Michel Temer, a poll revealed on Tuesday.
The Temer government's first month in power was pummeled by a series of scandals and missteps, leading to low public support that bodes ill for its reform plans.
According to the poll by the Vox Populi Institute, only 11 percent of respondents were satisfied with the new government, 33 percent viewed it "regular," while some 21 percent did not reply.h The poll also found that 32 percent of respondents believe Temer's government to be worse than expected. Some 52 percent expected unemployment to rise, while 44 percent agreed that corruption will worsen, compared with 26 percent who believed it will improve.
When asked about their opinions about Tremer's legislation, about 77 percent of respondents believe that the planned pensions reform will hurt most Brazilians.
Moreover, 67 percent of the polled favored advancing the 2018 presidential election, while 29 percent preferred it to stay as planned.
Temer took office on May 12, after former President Dilma Rousseff was suspended for an impeachment trial over her alleged window-dressing of fiscal accounts to make the deficit look smaller.
Temer, on his part, is facing a credibility crisis as a graft investigation has entangled several of his cabinet members and of his Brazilian Democratic Movement Party.
