BRASILIA, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's Supreme Court president, Ricardo Lewandowski, on Tuesday shelved a request by suspended President Dilma Rousseff to clarify the rights she maintains as a suspended head of state.
The request sought a clarification from interim President Michel Temer on how Rousseff could continue using her official residence, state bodyguards, her staff, and dedicated land and air transportation.
Lewandowski said it had nothing to do with the impeachment process being held in the Senate and that his role was to verify Rousseff was being granted her legal right to a defense.
In his decision, he wrote that Rousseff could direct her request to a federal court in Porto Alegre.
Earlier this month, the office of the presidency said that Rousseff was now only allowed to take airforce flights between Brasilia and Porto Alegre, where she has her main residence.
Last week, the government denied a request by Rousseff to travel between Brasilia and Campinas, forcing her to take a private flight.
