LIMA, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Peru's President-elect, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, said Tuesday that he was planning to meet with his defeated rival, Keiko Fujimori, in the next few days, as soon as the National Electoral Tribunal confirms the result of presidential elections.
At a press conference after meeting with outgoing President Ollanta Humala for transition talks, Kuczynski said they should meet to discuss "matters of state," especially because Fujimori's Popular Force party has an absolute majority in Congress.
Kuczynski said until now, he had no contact with Fujimori or her team to firm up this meeting but that such an encounter was part of his promise to build a government which could cater to all segments of politics and society.
Such a government is needed in order to tackle Peru's rising public security problems, reverse an economy showing signs of sluggish growth and attract more foreign investors, he said.
There was no immediate comment from Fujimori, who was edged out by a wafer-thin margin in Peru's tightest presidential election in decades.
Fujimori has conceded defeat, but she warned that her rightwing populist party would be a force of opposition during his term.
Kuczynski is expected to assume office on July 28 for a mandate lasting until 2021. Enditem
