LAGOS, June 14 (Xinhua) -- At least 23 lost their lives and 127 other persons injured in road crashes recorded in southwest Nigeria's Oyo State in May, a road official reported on Tuesday.
State spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Oluwaseun Onijala told reporters in Ibadan, the state capital that 29 road traffic accidents were recorded in the state in the period.
He said 150 passengers were involved in the accidents.
Onijala attributed the incidents to the disregard for traffic regulations.
Road accidents take place frequently in Nigeria due to reckless driving, bad road conditions and over packing. More than 1,000 are killed on the road each year in the country. Enditem
