ANKARA, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Six police officers were injured in a roadside bomb attack by Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) militants on Tuesday, Dogan News Agency reported.
The explosion occurred in Gevas district of Van province while an armed vehicle carrying police forces was passing by. Six police officers were wounded in the explosion and two of them are in critical condition.
A wide-scale operation has begun in the region to apprehend the PKK militants responsible for the attack.
Over 470 members of Turkish security forces and thousands of PKK members have been killed in confrontations inside Turkey and in northern Iraq since last July.
More than 40,000 people have lost their lives in clashes with the PKK since 1984, when the group first started anti-government attacks.
The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union and Turkey. Enditem
