Chinese shares rise mildly Tuesday

BEIJING, June 14 (Xinhua) -- China's stocks gained mildly on Tuesday as investors took a wait-and-see attitude ahead of a decision by the MSCI on whether it will add China's A share market to its Emerging Markets Index.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index went up 0.32 percent to finish 2,842.19 points.

The smaller Shenzhen index closed 0.33 percent higher at 9,895.15 points. The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, edged up 0.18 percent to 2,058.31 points.

Affected by uncertainties over the MSCI decision, market sentiment was cautious, with the combined turnover on the two bourses shrinking to 412.67 billion yuan (63.49 billion U.S. dollars).

Analysts are divided but agree that the near-term impact will be quite limited even if Chinese shares are added to the MSCI Emerging Markets Index.

Brokerages and the banking sector led the rise.
