HOUSTON, June 13 (Xinhua) -- There are no Chinese nationals who have been identified by U.S. authorities among the victims of Sunday's mass shooting in Florida, the Chinese Consulate-General in Houston said Monday.

At least 49 people were killed and 53 others wounded, including a police officer, early Sunday in the shooting at a gay nightclub in the city of Orlando.

The shooter has been identified as Omar Mateen, a 29-year-old who was of Afghan descent but born in the United States. He was killed in an exchange of fire with SWAT forces.

According to the names of the 48 victims released by U.S. authorities on Monday afternoon, no Chinese national has been found among these victims. However, the U.S. law enforcement is still in the process of identifying the last victim in the shooting incident.

In addition, U.S. authorities have since identifying the 53 injured.

The Chinese Consulate-General has asked to be immediately informed if any Chinese nationals are among the injured. Therefore, it has established direct contact with U.S. authorities and asked Orlando Chinese communities for help in order to know if there is any Chinese victim.
