Rainstorms continue in south China

NANNING, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Torrential rain continued to pound south China provinces on Monday.

One person was reported missing in floods in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Monday, the regional civil affairs department said.

Rain battered the region from Saturday to Monday. As of 3:30 p.m. on Monday, the storm has left 4,680 hectares of crops damaged and 72 homes destroyed. Direct economic losses reached 51 million yuan (7.8 million U.S. dollars).

In neighboring Guizhou Province, floods left five people missing.

As of Sunday, 8,460 people in Guizhou had been relocated to safer places, according to the provincial civil affairs department.

More storms are expected in coming days. Local meteorological stations warned people to be prepared for floods and landslides. Enditem
