TRIPOLI, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed and several others were injured in a suicide bomb attack on Monday in Sirte.

The suicide attack occured in Abu Hadi, 18 km south of Sirte, beside a civil registry office.

Libya's government presidential guards launched an offensive in May against Islamic State (IS) militants in Sirte, successfully reclaiming most of the city.

A further three suicide bomb attacks took place within the vicinity of a government forces field hospital in Sirte on Sunday, injuring several guards, according to a military source.

Misrata's hospital announced last week that 130 government troops were killed and over 400 others were injured during clashes with IS in Sirte.

The presidential guards service was established by the UN-backed unity government to combat IS's growing influence.

Sirte is located 450 km east of the capital city of Tripoli and has been under IS control for over a year now.

The IS claimed responsibility for the suicide bombings and the killing of foreign workers in Libya.
